To me it seems like the 5.3 downshifts a lot. Slight throttle and it downshifts. At 75+ it stays in 9th a lot. I figure its time spent in higher gears is making it get worse mpg.

Different video with interesting info but it has the same thumbnail background, it is not a duplicate.

What I do not understand is are the replacement motors "New" from the manufacturing plant or "Reman" units that have been reworked.

What is scary is even a "Reman" engine from GM is only showing at a cost of around $3700, I assume dealer/warranty pricing may even be less.

I also understand that often when starting out with a "Reman" product, assuming the GM is not buying from scrapyards or taking back failed engines, sometimes, a number of "New" parts are depolyed to fill the pipeline.

What is crazy is I am seeing other suppliers for the L87 used going for $5000 to almost $10,000!. Might be a supply and demand thing as well at the moment.

I have seen some "New" long block engines for around $7500.

I not a fan of "Reman" engines as you never know what shortcuts the supplier is taking at the workmanship as well. What parts are actually replaced on the "Reman" units, what parts are reused, what parts are machined?

Somewhere I thought I saw that GM may have artifically pushed the replacement engine prices down pretty low, but maybe I am mistaken. I can see with this large number of failures, there might be some back office price adjustment to make the "sting" feel less on the corparate level??
