Not my Tahoe, but my son's. 2001 5.3L, 115K miles, 4WD. Starts fine, then after a few seconds starts ticking then runs quiet after a minute or less. It only does this when cold such as after sitting overnight or longer. He's had it about a year and it's been doing this since purchased. Runs fine, no codes, typical power and gas mileage. Video link below. Lifters, exhaust leak, piston slap, ....? I've searched the forum and listened to other videos but I don't have the discerning ear that a lot of you guys have. Any ideas are appreciated. Link to video -

Never met a 20yearold GM LS/Vortec V8 that does not make a little bit more noise during the 1st minute of a winter-cold start.
OW30 or 0W40 GroupIV PAO synthetic motor oil,
the right oil filter (still learning on this one, I use Purolator PBL25288 or any oil filter that is NOT the 'basic' offering),
don't shift into gear for 30-60secs depending on how cold it is outside at start up,
drive gently enough to piss off drivers behind you for 3-7min after shifting into gear depending on how cold it is outside -
(and pull to the right, like everyone else should when they're in your way) -
and change oil & filter at least 20% sooner than recommended, but time it so the winter oil change immediately precedes the coldest months.
