I don't normally ask these types of questions here but I'm a little unsure. I have this 01 Denali with 141k on it that I bought in Dec. I've been mulling over it for a while now. It needs a little paint work done (scraped bumper and odd rust bubble on pass fender) and the rear air shocks are bad. I have just about as much in it as you can before I loose money if I sell. My options are to keep it, fix paint, change springs in rear and add standard shocks and then it would be lowered 3" which doesn't cost much as you guys know. Or try to keep selling it the way it is and prolly have people turn their nose because of the fender and shocks. It's a pretty decent vehicle, not prestine by any means but decent. I'm just not sure what I would buy for $8ish without having to put money with it. I just don't want to dump a lot of money in it this one but would like it to look cool if I keep it for a little while. I could always keep the wheels if I buy some and put them on the next vehicle.

I would like it go from this

Well, I can't directly relate as I think your end goals are different than mine, but I can tell you what I did... Long story short, my '01 x5 had about 120k miles on it. My trusted BMW mechanic said I was due for about 1700 dollars worth of work and, most of the folks with x5's that age/miles said I would be looking at putting 1~2k into it each year with various little things. We had only had it for around 2 years and bought it before the bottom feel out of the car market, so we paid a premium and I still owed a little on it when I had to either come to the decision of 1) keep the car and keep it running, fix the little stuff every year, etc. or 2) get a new(er) car and take a loss on what I owed (didn't want to deal with selling it myself, out of 5 dealers, all 5 basically offered me 1400 less than I owed). So, since we are expecting another baby, carry around 2 dogs all the time, and I would rather spend money on the loan vs. the maintenance, I took the loss (which, it was less than the current repair bill and my MAF went out the day I traded it in, so add that to the top) and I am pretty happy. Don't get me wrong, the Yukon is no x5, but it's not really an apples to apples comparison either. All that said, I think you have to decide if you want to keep it around and keep it running or go for something else. I don't think you are going to get something as nice, in your price range, but you could get something more reliable (or, spend more and get both)...

my auto ride shocks are bad too. it costs only 370$ to buy the shocks and another 150 to get them installed. thats a cheap repair. you're air compressor might be bad as well so add 190$ on top of that. all those prices are ebay prices. but good quality stuff from bilstein/Arnott. i have a similar Denali with 146k miles. i gotta tell you i spent couple g's on it so far but its worth it. i dont care about the market value as long as i like the truck and feel comfi driving it.

I found a set of Boss 22" with tires for $1k and another set of chrome ones for $800. I do like the look of the Chevy truck wheels that some guys are putting on though. The truck isn't too bad, needs a little paint repair on the bumper and running board. If I keep would definitely like to lower it. Very comfy ride too.
