In my research for installing a factory box in my '03, I think I might have seen someone do a 10" in there. Obviously you're going to have to cut to get it to fit, but then I'd just be worried about mounting depth and especially the box size itself. It's only about .375 cu/ft, and I'm not sure there's many 10" subs that would do well in that small of an enclosure. Last thing I'd worry about is the excursion. Probably won't hit the grille panel, but it's something I'd check.

I know people have made custom boxes for all sizes in that spot, and if price isn't too much of a factor, MTX makes the Thunderform boxes for that location in 10" and 12". You'd have to relocate the floor jack, though, and also the spare tire tools if you have a '03+

You don't want a oem suburban box... they are smaller and have a much shallower mounting depth. Plus they only fit if you have a burb or xl.

Of you do, there is room there to fiberglass a box in and come up with about 6-7" of mounting depth and 1 cu.ft. sealed. You can fit a single 10 or 2 8's. I started to go that route and changed.
