Oil Leak Question

Hello! I've really tried to utilize the search function but haven't found anything yet specific to the plug on the oil cooler line block thing.

I have an oil leak right above the oil filter and I know the gasket on the block for the oil cooler lines is a common culprit but it really seems like its coming from a plug on the back of that thing.

Has anybody experienced that before? It may have been the gasket in that area but the gasket sure appeared fine. I grabbed some allen keys but didn't have the exact size to just try and remove it to look for an O-ring.

The O-ring most likely needs to be replaced.

Oh yeah, finally found the right size to get it off. It has a brittle plastic looking seal, if it used to be a rubber o-ring Ive never seen one become to brittle. Hopefully a rubber o-ring does the job.

ive seen orings become so brittle they practically turn to dust. that being said an oring could possibly work but not all orings are made the same. i can't remember the specific term for the measurement atm(and im a maintenance tech.... its too early. anyway just make sure the oring you purchase is good for oils and temperature. a standard pneumatic oring will degrade quickly in that environment. there are also seal rings that appear to be some kind of plastic used in automotive. personally i think they are the scourge of the automotive seals but whatever.

Tightening it often stops it from leaking.

Either Allen wrench 3/8 or 10MM works.

White Teflon thread tape should work also if the rubber O-ring is NOT available.

Thanks everybody! I did replace the o-ring from a dorman kit, and so far so good. And actually I did also just replace the gasket as well so I may never know the real culprit.

My 2014 Denali has a leak that 'appears' to be from the oil filter however, I think that's unlikely. I'm going to crawl underneath the ol' girl this weekend and see if I have the same oil cooler setup as the OP, as this sounds like a more likely source for my leak.

Do you have a part number for the o ring? I can't find it anywhere.
