Good Day Folks,

I am new to this forum and seeking knowledge. I have a 2002 Tahoe LS 5.8 Flex. I've ran into some oil issues with the oil pressure sending unit. I've replaced it about 3 times with ones from O'reilly's, Advanced, and now one from Napa. I'm wondering if its the plug itself. Love my truck but definitely concerned. Any suggestions out there?

First: Welcome to the forum from Oregon.

Second: What are the oil issues? Low or no oil pressure showing? Leaks? You gotta give more details than what you are giving.

Third:

We recommend that you put all your rig(s) info in your signature so we all don’t have to guess at year, make, model, engine size, trans, rear axle locker…….etc. While you may have posted pertinent info in your first post, you may forget to do it again and the info is needed by us anyway. Makes it way easier on all members that attempt to help, to have that info right up front. It is also recommended that you take a pic of your RPO codes, on the inside cover of the glove box, and post that image in your signature. All this info will greatly help those that will try to help with a problem.

If there is any other info, like upgrades, mods or recent mechanical/maintenance work done, that would be helpful in any post as well. Too many times a question is asked by the poster and after about 10 responses we find out that the poster has done recent work to attempt to fix the problem or work that was done that SEEMS not related to the problem.

Welcome to the forum from Iowa.

The pressure gauge is meant to read oil pressure. If it says your oil pressure is low, my first instinct is to see if it is truly low, not assume the gauge is bad. If you verified that you had good pressure, then replacing the sending unit is the right call, but, and this is a big but, you have to verify that you have pressure. As @PNW VietVet said, what other pieces of information can you share? What testing have you done? I know too many people who have wanted to simply replace a sensor hoping it was a bad sensor, because that is the easy route to go, only to find out the sensor was working and they had other issues. Kind of like killing the messenger simply because you don’t like the message they brought you. The chances of 3 sensors being bad out of the box is pretty slim. Stop throwing parts at it and go through the proper steps.

1) Make sure you have the proper amount and type of oil in the motor and a good oil filter.
2) Get a pressure test gauge and verify what you have for pressure. Is it high? Is it low?
3) Based on what you see on the test gauge, make your next move.

C'mon, man! Not rubbing it in, just want to see it. Doubting Thomas, maybe.
