Oil life %... How accurate is it?

Good Thinking I have decided that I am going to just keep the oil changed at 5k or less and keep driving. "let the sleeping dog lie" LOL

Did an oil life (% remaining) tracking & log recently for my 2007 Tahoe PPV, the Oil Life Monitor displayed 1% decreasing at average each 60-70 miles on odometer reading.

The current mileage since last oil change is 4112 miles, the oil life remaining is 32%. The prediction for the next oil change mileage could be near 6200 miles with 0% oil life left.

So, if your truck mileage is 95% generated from hi-way driving, the oil change interval should be around 7000 - 7500 miles.

Like the title says, how accurate is it? And just out of curiosity, what are some of your oil change intervals?

Well I have been checking the tracking info on USPS website regularly and it hasn't been updated since Dec 22....

Until today... the tracking shows that my oil sample arrived at the distribution center in Detroit... let's see how long it takes them to get it the last 170 miles over to Fort Wayne.... lol

Hopefully I will have the Burbs lab results this week.

Blackstone finally received my oil sample...

Let's all give a big hand to the USPS for there stellar service...

981 miles and it only took them 30 days... that's like 32-33 miles per day... pretty good... I thought they stopped using the pony express years ago

Shipped on the 18th of Dec. Delivered on the 17th of Jan.

I called Blackstone, as this is my first time having a sample analyzed, to see what the turn around time would be on the report and to see if they would email it to me.

The nice women on the phone informed me that with their present work load it will probably be 6 days...

So I guess I will hurry up and wait some more

Ok... the wait is over... the results are in... drum roll please!!!



So obviously this is my first time having an oil analysis done on this truck or any vehicle for that matter. According to what they said the lead appears to be high but they didn't seem to worried about it.

To me it all looks ok. The bigger dual filters and Mobil 1 extended performance oil seems to be doing ok.

What do you guys think???

I can't think of anyone else at the moment.

I think it looks okay for such a long interval. He told me that Iron is the one that tends to accumulate with usage. I saw that trend with my longer interval, but other than that, my top 7 rows all stayed the same, with lead at only 2 ppm.
My bottom 7-8 rows all went down on my longer interval.

Bottom line, do it again next time and compare. I am coming up on my third due here soon.

I emailed Blackstone to ask this question and I will report back what they say...

I am wondering if something in my oil system could be causing the higher lead content.

I have metal parts that are "foreign" to my original oil system (dual remote filter mount and an aftermarket oil cooler and the adapter that screws onto the original oil filter boss) that could be contaminating the oil.

If I had to guess on which one might have lead in it I would have to guess the oil cooler because they solder it together.

I think most solder in this country is probably lead free, not sure, but this is probably a Chinese made cooler since I purchased it from Fleabay.

Any thoughts?
