Everything was pretty straight forward! Supported front of truck by cross member forward of axle. Lowered the cross frame (4bolts), incliped 4wd actuator connector, removed axle bolts to lower axle down (4 bolts). IMG_1024.JPGRemoved 2 starter bolts and moved starter out of the way, disconnected oil level sensor, disconnected front wire harness bracket, and side transmission cooler line bracket. Removed oil pan bolts, and pulled a little on the axle to lower it down as far as possible to rest on brackets! Out the pan came. IMG_1025.JPGIMG_1028.JPG
Pan had a little bit of sludge in the bottom but not bad for first time out since it rolled off the show room floor in 2004. Replaced oil pump pickup tube O-ring and went to install pan! Back corner by the oil filter snapped right off on the finger tight part.

Great job man! I'm pretty sure my Z71 is going to need a new oil pan gasket done. I recently bought it and thought it wasn't leaking. Come to find out, the skid plate also serves as a drip saver plate! How long do you think it took you? I'm debating doing it myself or having it done by my local mechanic.

you don't think the original pan would ride the way it is missing the corner? Looks like plenty of material left there to seal tight on the engine block

Total time would have been a full a day if I didn't have to wait for the oil pan, and I didn't have OCD when it comes to cleaning! As far as the old pan going back up, the bolt hole that was there would have leaked for sure, and it was better it broke in the garage than driving down the road.
