I have put my 02 Yukon XL into 4WD before when I went to the mountains but did not notice any noise a couple weeks ago. Well yesterday I went to the beach and drove around the beach for a couple miles. As soon as I put it into 4wd high I heard a worble sounds, sort of like a warped rotor for brakes, it did not seem to slow me down any and got more consistent as speed increased. As soon and I put it back into 2wd the noise went away.

So does anybody know what this is? Low fluids? Kinda at a loss here.

Any help is appreciated.

where is the noise coming from? more center or forward of the vehicle ? The most probable cause is the transfer case bearings going bad. The NP246 Tcase has issues from the factory known for the pump to wear through the magnesium casing , check to make sure yours is dry and filled with fluid , if so check the color (should be blue) Auto tracII report back with your findings
