My one-year OnStar subscription included with the purchase of my 2010 Tahoe in May 2010 will end in about three weeks, and I have no intention of renewing it. I've never pressed a button to use any of the features included. I just can't see spending $200 or so each year to subscribe to something that there is almost a zero chance I'll ever use.

So, who thinks OnStar is worth the monthly or yearly fee for the service?

I was given free OnStar on my new Tahoe. I haven't even activated it yet.

With everybody having cell phones, what is the advantage of it?

I vote ...... dump it.

i keep the basic on just because they will alert emergency services in case of an accident...i kept the navigation for about 6 months after the free year ran out

dumped the navigation as it led me to the wrong place too many times...i really was pissed off after i had a truck full of girls (taking the woman and friends to a bachelorette party) into the middle of the projects where we got approached/chased by about 10 "thugs" (luckily they were on foot)

the advantage over a cell phone is that the onstar doesnt rely on cell towers so the built in phone/onstar services can connect in the middle of nowhere...with that said unless you live/travel in the middle of nowhere...not really worth it

I'm not sure about this but I believe the little red emergency button remains active even if one cancels their on star subscription.

Not sure if this correct though.

Experiences with Onstar:
1) It "dialed" per-say, and it kept ringing like nobody was answering.
2) It didn't even work after I got hit by a drunk driver.

Therefore, I say it sucks.

OnStar is totally deactivated if you're not a paying customer after the free subscription ends. I'll press all of the buttons on 05-27-11 and see what happens, and nothing better happen. :roflsquared:

Maybe when OnStar goes silent, it'll help the battery, too!

I'd be careful on that one ... once many a year ago I rented a Tahoe with a deactivated on star (i asked the lady at the counter), i go into a gas station to pay and get some snacks, go to the restroom, and when i come back out there were five cop vehicles surrounding the truck.

Turns out the mrs was curious as to what the little red button did. :whymewhyme: Trust me it took a while to explain all that to the cops. :)

So I'd call and check first before you start pressing buttons to 'test.' :waytogo:

I would dump it, unless you have a spare $200 to waste every year? Or you can use that $200 to mod your truck! :rocking:
