maybe a little bit but why even try it. my sonata also later got issued a new dipstick as a recall
that had you put it about another 1/3 - 1/2 a quart.

We used to run larger filters in our Buicks too but we did not increase the amount of oil. The purpose was to keep the oil off the crankshaft as the oil pans had a small windage tray and we ran Mobil 1 synthetic. Our GM minivans called for 4.5 quarts and I ran them all at 4 quarts for years with no problems, again running Mobil 1 synthetic. Trouble with oil change places is they would always overfill them with 5 quarts! My wife had the oil changed 3 times and every time those places overfilled the motors. That's why I always do my own save for those three times when I was too sick to do it.

Not sure how these LS engines with AFM will react to low oil, I hear that it is not good. I do plan to run the larger filter starting with my next oil change but not sure if I should increase the oil amount or not. I do plan on physically removing AFM next year or this winter.

The way I was taught was that too much oil could end up bending internal parts. It kind of functions like hydraulic fluid at a certain point.

How can excess oil "blow seals"??? Sure, there are areas of the engine that have pressure, but that doesn't change with extra oil. If anything the pressure would drop, because overfilling causes oil oxidation from the pistons splashing in too much oil. Foamed up oil doesn't lube the engine very well at all. For that reason I wouldn't go over by any more than 1/2 qt

The universal opinion -- no empirical evidence has been cited yet -- is that over filling is bad. At this point it is just semantics as to whether over filling causes higher or lower pressures, or exactly what the "bad" results are.

Would anyone like to provide tests supporting their hypothesis?

Here is one of many videos regarding the issue. In this video both scenarios (high pressure seal leaks in areas like the crank and low pressure oxidation) are true. Either can happen, depending on the engine design. When I was younger I overfilled a 89 4.3L vortec 1500 by mistake. I lost power, oil gauge went way down. I pulled over, checked the oil, and it was like a milkshake on the end of the dip stick. I waited a few minutes and limped home. I researched it and found out why. The crank can foam up the oil if there is too much.
