I see no reason to buy an entire cluster just to get a needle, a bulb, and the overlay with the trans temp numbers on it.

Does anyone know where/how to find the P/n for just the overlay itself?
Is any part in the cluster itself simply N/A, ie GM - "Blow a $0.30 bulb, discard a $500 part?" mentality?

there is no way the rebuilders on ebay are buying entire clusters from the junkyard to get 2500HD parts... well maybe they are, but it certainly seems like they are not.

I have not been able to find a good parts look up system like what I am used to after searching for the last 4 hours straight for the P/N...

For my talon i had Mitsubishi "Computer Assisted Parts Search" ie their actual parts computer system on my personal computer.

For BMW there were 2-3 online sites that were factory parts computer emulators.

nothing like being able to search by exploded diagrams to find the particular part you want, especially when all the online parts houses seem to really favor P/N look up.

I have only seen them on ebay and they were like 80 bucks for the overlay. I would love to find them and do that mod but I have never been able to find the parts and im a little hesitant to pull my cluster apart as many times as it has been replaced. But I would love to do that mod.

There is a write up on Z71tahoe that someone did for this mod. Seemed like a lot of work and patience, but if you are into soldering and such, it is right up your alley!

yeah, that is what I used to figure out how to disassemble the cluster and replace my broken speedo motor. It is actually VERY VERY easy... a few pieces of tape to mark where the needles go when bottomed out by hand, and no calibration problem when reinstalling.
I think that was OmarR's write up... ?

Shoot I just realized OmarR <posted above> wrote up that 'How-To' on z71.

Omar, could we get that write up ported over here?
I'll put it all in a word doc/pdf with your permission.

Sure, Eagle!

If you want to add your "tape method" for setting the needles as well, go for it! I think giving mutiple options on how to do the same thing is better for the end user.

After the fact, I also did an alternate way of setting the needles that I need to add on, eventually.

Here is an 03 Escalade Overlay...

Good find, but keep in mind that it's metric.
