Took the day off and took the Hoe out for some highway exercise out to here today. She likest to run good 65-70 mph.

This was my first time up and close and personal to steam engines. Never realized on the 4 axle+ drive units the middle axle wheels had no flanges whatsoever. I guess that is so they can handle the tight turns.

I gotta tell ya, those steam engines look great on the outside. This was the first time I ever got to climb up and look into the cab of them though. They look like a death trap on the inside. You can barely fit on the driver's seat and got this big pressure boiler and firebox in your face, **** THAT. Got a new perspective now.


One thing I did learn is I never knew they had driveshaft and open bevel gear driven steams which were cool. I didn't get pics because my damn phone was almost dead.





I was saving what was left of the battery life for the love of my life...

Allowed inside? Was just up for a ride on the Strausburg RR on a steam locomotive. Excellent stuff. Great buffet in the area, too!!

Looks like you had a pretty cool day. I love trains.

The amount of engineering that went into those steam locomotives was amazing. To think that they were able to build such massive machines and make them go 80mph+ down the track is truly a feat.
