I helped a few friends prep their cars etc for Maaco in the past, we did the body work, primed, taped them off etc before trailering them to the local shop...
Once there made it clear, no orange peel, no runs etc right on the paperwork and they did a good/presentable job.
When you shoot as many cars as they do a year you either get good or out of the business.
You can spend as much as you want on a body/paint job ,all depends on your expectations on the finished product.

A wrap on a DD I have a feeling would not hold up well over time.

As has been stated the key to a maaco job is good prep PRIOR to being dropped off at their shop. With that said you can save a ton of money by doing all prep work prior to dropping your ride off anywhere. When doing my '77 I did all my bodywork and prep prior to having it painted. I would have painted it too but lacked the space and equipment. So I'd encourage you to prep it prior to having the work done :)

A scuff and shoot is basically they go over the original paint with a scotch bright pad then shoot it. Get your a da sander a box of 220 paper and go at it. You don't want and shiny spots and want the hole thing to be smooth then go over it with scotch bright pads make sure it's nice and dul in all areas. Fix any dings and your good to go. Sounds like a lot of work but it's not really. My hoe is black and I'm going to paint it black again but with a silver pearl. It's a gm color it looks awesome.

someone hit it right on the head. Maaco actually does use quality materials but they buy in bulk so they get it alot cheaper than me and you. My buddy manages a Maaco in wisconsin and hes gonna be shootin my hoe in november. but yea, key thing is to do all you can b4 you go there.

I'd say do all the prep yourself and take it to maaco, too. The reason most cars that come out of there look like shit is because theres still rust, body damage, or big imperfections under the paint.
