There is a wide gulf between the cost of a minivan and a Suburban, new or used. There was a time when I could not afford the truck so the minivan was it. It's 3rd row is more roomy than my Yukon and is way more fuel efficient. Of course, that's where the similarities end, towing, ride quality, off road ability, etc., the trucks win hands down!
That being said, those relatives probably couldn't afford the truck so they blabbed about the mini to convince themselves it was the better deal not realizing to each his own. Something like that anyways!
