The camera that I bought has 4 LED lights built in to it, so if it is always on, the lights will always be on. That is pretty much the only reason that I only want it on when in reverse.
Mine has the LED's as well, they are only for night vision..and only powered when ignition is on.

Right, I just don't want them on all the time (as in while I am driving). I only want them on when they camera is engaged.

Ok, so this would be a good signal wire to go to the camera and radio.

I have seen some people wire them so that they are always on, and you just select camera on your radio to show what is behind you. I would rather it come on automatically when I put it in reverse.

Is yours a tag mounted camera?
Yes, it's a good wire for that. I kind of like the idea of it being on all the time. That could come in handy. Yes, mine is tag mounted, but it's not working. I think there's a problem inside the radio itself. It's a brand new camera.

I’m not sure exactly how my rear cam is wired in cuz I had a shop do it, but’s wired to my reverse line so it automatically engages when I put my truck in reverse. But it’s also wired into another constant power source as my head unit has the option already to pull it up when reverse isn’t engaged. So when, for instance towing a jet ski trailer I can pull up my camera with my shortcut button, when I can’t see the jet ski tagging along in the mirror and make sure it’s where I want it. It’s quite the angst

I thought about wiring it up that way, but the my only complaint is that the LED lights that are built in to the camera would always be on as long as the vehicle is on. Not really an "issue", just don't want the lights on at night for instance while driving down the road. I am not sure if it may prohibit a cop from seeing my license plate with 4 LED lights right now to it.

Maybe I am just overthinking it...

Yeah, I don't think those are leds, they look like some kind of sensors or something. Just took a pic, maybe they are. The top is a sensor.15227024509075654941335673696512.jpg
