Had a 92 Chevy 2500 regular cab 8ft box...then a 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 crew/8ft. Crossed into an 08 Avalanche which was a nice mix between the pickups and the SUV (and still my fav DD) and now in a Suburban. I need the Burb so I rent a pickup when I need to.

I'm in the middle of renovating a new home we just purchased so I could really use a P/U truck at the ready. However, even if I buy some turd it is going to run me $4k including insurance and I've only spent $150 on renting a truck from Home Depot and $50 delivery fee for lumber. Still a lot cheaper than buying. Even if I quadruple that over the next 12 months its still less than buying a p/u.

The smart move, if you have the room, is to buy a utility trailer. Then its at the ready for you, no insurance, little maintenance.

Anybody go from a pickup truck to a Yukon XL? Had a truck most of my life but really don't have a need for it anymore and with my wife, little guy, and 108lb Weim/Choc Lab mix it would be nice to have the extra space for long trips. I figure I can tow my small enclosed trailer if I need to haul larger stuff around.
Exactly what I did. I went from my 06 CrewCab Dually to the 04 Yukon XL. Honestly haven't really missed the truck. I picked up a military cargo trailer for those truck bed run (dump, firewood, etc) and its been great. Really liking the room in the yukon.

I certainly understand, I went from a 93 C3500 Crew Cab (which I spent thousands of hours & dollars on customizing, altering and improving) to a 2015 Yukon XL. Initially, I went to the dealership looking to purchase a replacement for the truck. I no longer tow a boat to and from the Colorado river and didn't need the 1 ton, so I was looking for a 2500 HD crew cab and would put a shell on it to secure gear. After looking at the cost of new pick up trucks (talk about sticker shock, I was SOOOO out of touch with prices) considering I paid 24,000 for the 93 when I bought it new and now looking at 65,000 +/- for a similar vehicle, I decided it was time to "grow up" and move into an SUV. I don't haul construction stuff anymore and do very little DIY home stuff, but I do carry LOTS of scuba gear to and from dive sites. Going from the 93 to the 2015 was akin to going from a canoe to a jet fighter. The upgrades in electronics, the options and materials had all changed so much. The 93 had the Chevrolet AM/FM, Cassette. I upgraded to a 10 disc CD changer and shuttle in 94 or so and the only other options it had were power windows, door locks, tilt, A/C, Cruise Control and that was about it. The upgrades I had done to the truck were all done over the years and I truly loved that truck. I put an ad to sell it in August 2015, and had numerous offers on it, the mileage was 145,000 on the 454 and was solid. I sold it for 6800.00 (reluctantly) as there was another guy who said he "was on his way", but cash in hand beats a guy who's "20 minutes" away. I have done a few things to the Yukon, but the motor and such are beyond my skills and all of the stuff I'd learned from the 93 were no longer a viable option. Outside of the paint issues the Yukon faced (which was addressed in another post) I upgraded the sill plates, (to the illuminated), weathertech floors mats and floor liner for the back, blacked out the dash emblem, de-badged it, tinted the windows (a must have for So. Cal., although still illegal), had the factory wheels powdercoated, added metal american flags to where the "SLE" logo was and that was about it. Paint-matching is pretty much already done. About the only additional thing I may still do (pondering it every few months) is blacking out the little remaining chrome trim, but that's not exactly a must-do at this point. I've grown quite accustomed to the added features (though I'm still struggling with the power seat, the car wash will move it and I'll spend the next week re-adjusting it to where I thought it was), but the Sirius radio, Onstar, and integrated phone are all wonderful features. The biggest difference I still notice on a regular basis is how much quieter the Yukon is compared to the 93 which was so noisy on the freeway. I don't know how long I'll keep the Yukon, I doubt it will last as long as the 93 did, but who knows? The next time I purchase a new truck it may able to fly? LOL

I drove a 3/4 ton diesel truck for 15 years. In 2013 I realized that I was no longer pulling the heavy trailers anymore and I had also been using a 5x10 utility trailer for jobs around the house. I traded the truck on a 2010 Suburban. I thought I would miss the truck but I didn’t. I really like the extra interior space of the Suburban. I think unless you are using the truck bed all the time the suburban is more useful day to day. I have used it to haul plywood and lumber and have used the roof rack to haul 16’ long molding which is something I wasn’t able to do with the pickup. I liked the suburban so much I replaced it with a 2016 YukonXL two years ago.

I was the same. Drove pickups all my life but a few years ago got married and then had our first kid. We had my 07 GMC 3/4 ton Duramax that we both adored. We ended up selling it and buying a 2011 Escalade. We both absolutely love it but I miss my pickup. I miss my 500 hp diesel that I spent time and money on I miss being able to haul ANYTHING but the Escalade is more comfortable and practical for family. And it's no slouch either lol

I'll have another one someday when money permits but in the meantime I have a work pickup for the farm I can use if I need

have had pickups in the past and have an avalanche and picked up a 2500 burb, a denali xl, and a Tahoe last fall. I have loved the avy for several years now but is being retired from rust and the hoe is taking its place. loving the seating and the room in the two long ones, and plan to keep the rear of the hoe open for hauling crap most like I would the avy and if I need more room then I have the other two and a couple trailers to choose from. and considering I have liked s10 blazers and Cherokee types in the past I should be good.. if not I will get a cheap truck to fill the void

and by cheap I spend on the following..

02 2500 8.1 2wd burb $1,200 + $500 in new brakes
03 denali xl $2,000 plus wheel bearings and front axles
03 Tahoe $1,000 broken rear axle and damaged quarter form accident. using the avy for parts to mechanically fix.

That's where I am! Wife and I love my 2013 F350 that's been upgraded but I'm thinking the XL will be a much better option for us down the road. I'll be honest wife does not want me to get rid of the truck, but the adult in me is saying to do it and get one of these.
