Just had the check engine light come on last night. I noticed the temp gauge hadn't moved from the cold position (75). There was some hesitation/sputtering when climbing a long hill and accelerating to highway speed. Haven't had a chance to check the codes yet but I'm suspecting the T-Stat failed open.

Any other suggestions?

If the T Stat failed open your temp should still have gotten up to 150+. Sounds like your temp sensor failed. I dont see how this could cause the sputtering and hesitation unless the truck was close to overheating.

Thanks I will definitely check the sensor out as well.

I'm in Canada so my Temp gauge is in deg C

range is 75~125 if I remember correctly.

75C = 167F so even if the coolant got up to 150F it still wouldn't be registering.

It was a hot night out and I did pop the hood to take a look quickly when the light came on. Didnt notice anything strange or out of place at the side of the road and quickly drove it home. No leaking or hissing coming from the rad or anything once I had stopped.
