Power Steering Box Swap

has anyone out there replaced their power steering boX? I want to try to do this myself, but I have no experience and really do not want to pay a mechanic $700 or so.

Any ideas?

It's easy if you have tools.......
(Air gun or good breaker bar, Pitman Puller, Pickle fork,Big Jack and stand.)

If you have those, then you're set...

I do have access to all tools necessary for the job.

I was just hoping some one had some How To pics or problems I should look out for.

1. Tie down the steering wheel and should not move or spin.
(Important or else you could damage SIR)
2. Jack Driver side and remove tire.
3. Remove lower steering shaft bolt.
4. Remove the 2 Hoses from the box.
(Remove and save the hose fitting, you'll use that for the new box.)
5. Remove relay rod nut.
6. Use pickle fork to separate Pitman arm from relay rod.
7. Remove 3 bolts that holds the box.
(Careful it's heavy, tie it down or have someone hold it.)
8. Remove the Pitman from box with the puller.

Reverse everything for install.
After putting everything back fill the reservoir, and bleed the system.
(Important keep the fluid level full at all times while bleeding.)
You'll probably gonna need alignment.

separating that pitman arm from the relay rod is not an easy task...especially with a pickle fork. You may want to use a different tool

Works just fine!!....you'll just have to firm about, can't be to girly about it.
Give it a good hit and it'll come off.

Or buy those puller..if you insist..
