We currently have a 22 denali on order with the tech pack, rear seat media, and the 2 trailer packages (thats all i pretty much wanted anyway.) Got a message from a dealer we had previously seen telling me they had a 22 ultimate coming in soon. Asked if they had any market adjustment added and he said yes, $7500. I told him that I'd cancel my order and come buy that from them today if they'd sell for msrp only. He said management won't even budge. I asked, even for only a 2k market adjustment? Yep, won't even negotiate at all. Ridiculous.

Luckily we aren't in a hurry. Currently have a 14 grand cherokee summit with 90k miles that is in good shape. I just hate the car. It's been reliable and no issues, I just don't think it's comfortable and hate the seats. I get agitated after more than 1 hr of driving it. We are planning on a lot of road trips from now on with all this covid ********, so we wanted a bigger more comfortable suv as I'm used to driving big trucks.
I had the same thing a 2014 GC Summit Eco diesel. Overall it was a great vehicle but I wanted another diesel and the Denali was the only real choice left. Got very lucky to put my name on an unclaimed incoming stock ultimate in May for MSRP. Not missing any chips or options at all.
So far, it’s been flawless and 24-30 mpg. Room galore compared to the JGC. I really liked my Jeep and wanted another, but I love 600 mile range and 25+ mpg more…

I have about 7 diesel trucks for my business ranging from 2006 through 2018. So I'm familiar with the range of epa mandates on the diesels and the tech. I just couldn't imagine having to deal with regen and scr issues on the denali with the amount of idling and short range trips it would do.

I tow a lot with the other trucks so they get to run hot and keep the dpf fairly clean.

I’m here in the Seattle area as well and experienced the same thing. Low inventory and massive price gouging. I test drove an RST in Bellevue. I saw a line item on the sticker “Bellevue Package - $12,000” and asked the salesperson. He said “it is just the normal mark-up these days. But, we throw in two free oil changes and free windshield replacement if you have a rock chip.”

I honestly didn’t know what to say. Haha!

A week later I was driving by a small dealership in McMinnville, Oregon where I saw the exact 21 Duramax LT Tahoe I had been looking for. Pulled over, made and offer and drive away that afternoon.

They didn’t charge me any markup.
In the PacNW and just ordered one from a non-price gauging dealer in Tacoma.

It’s not gouging, it’s simple economics. Supply and demand, coupled with a surge of inflation caused by printing money while constraining productivity. How would you feed your family if you had fewer hours to work, or less product to sell, or whatever it is you do for income? You damn sure couldn’t afford to not react.

We recently did some price gouging of our own; traded in two vehicles and paid MSRP for the new ones. Happily, and here’s why:

Sold one trade to CarMax for $5k less than we paid. After 5 years of ownership. A thousand dollars year in depreciation on a car purchased new.

Traded a 2019 pickup and got $5k MORE than I paid for it new 2 years ago.

The numbers cited are hard cash dollars, not the bogus numbers dealers create with fuzzy math.

I've been sending messages to dealers from NY to GA on Z71 Tahoe's in transit to see if they're available to purchase. Some are asking for $9k over and I tell them no thanks. We'll see what the others have to say.

I might be getting in on my own price gouging. Picked up the 22 Z71 yesterday with lux, buckets, and roof for 63OTD (67k msrp) before factoring in my trade that I made 7k on in 6 months. Swung by CarMax and they offered me 74k…what in the world? Is going on? Now I need to find another one.

So, lets say in three years you want to trade it in and everything is back to normal, is your trade-in underwater by some $12-25K? So you take a bath on both ends of the deal in which you were not forced to participate!

Charging over sticker price is simple economics.. but it's also price gouging. Price gouging is essentially simple economics when supply of certain goods get low due to unusual circumstances. Is Best Buy and Walmart selling PS5s for $800 or more when they get them in because that's the market rate? No they still sell them at MSRP, $500, when they get inventory. While most dealers are taking advantage and charging over sticker, there are enough dealers out there not doing this-- just keep searching..
