Well everybody I've had my new 1996 2 door over the last three weeks. If you call recall, my tahoe had just 43k miles and change. It has sat most of its 15 years. So some things needed to be replaced. To date here's what I've done:
1. Replaced all u joints
2. Balanced rear driveshaft after it was determined it had a slight twist
3. New serpentine belt.
4. New tires (Goodyear Silent Armors)
5. Pioneer DEH-47Ph stereo with component speakers in front doors. Rear roof speakers, XM brain and cd player replacement pocket going in this week.
6. Seafoamed the engine. No smoke and I was freakin disappointed!
7. Weathertech floor mats and cargo liner on the way.
8. Washed the tahoe three times so far!
9. Got the torsion bars cranked up to level it out. Old lady that owned it had them backed way off.
---------
Here's what's to come as budget allows:
1. Flush and fill cooling system before autumn
2. Flush fluid and new filter for auto trans
3. Driver side axle seal
4. Change out all other fluids
5. KN CAI
6. Might have an exhaust leak near muffler so might put install Gibson dual in/dual out cat back system. Could get crazy and do a set of short headers with magnaflo cat forward system. Bit spendy though.
7. Figure out a way to get a little more seat of the pants punch to the 5.7. Maybe a bit more mpg.

What am I forgetting?:hands:

At minimum I would suggest the following;
(depending on cash flow of course)
CAI (Cold Air Intake) to get some more/better o2 into the motor.
BlackBear Tune. Will give a little more oomph like you are looking for.

Both of these upgrade are inexpensive and reliable.

good luck and keep us posted on the progress.

Sounds like your headed in the right direction... But I was warned NOT to flush the tranny.... Just drain fluid, replace filter and fill with good quality ATF... I just did mine and used 6 quarts of AMSOIL ATF...

he'll be fine changing the filter. Its only the higher mileage trans that you need to worry about. Also dont use synthetic trans fluid..

Other then that looks like your be in the right directions.. ball joints gone at 43kmiles? my truck has 90,000 miles and the factorys are tight.. Hmm.

Youll need 2quarts of diff oil when you change that seal btw

Shorty's aren't that bad to install because of their size, long tubes are the ones that cause problems.
