Just bought a red top optima 34R, but the negative terminal doesnt fit. Is there another size red top that i should go back and exchange or just try and make this one fit?

just bend it open. they are made of lead for a tight fit after tightening...if your clamp has been stretched to shit you may need to replace it.

Ok so i think a buddy of mine and me are going to cut the negative cable and redo the connector so that it will fit on the battery. Anyone see a problem with this? or even tried to do it? He says all there is to it, is buy a new connector, cut off the existing one, fill the new one with solder, stick in the wires and let it cool. Am i missing anything?

i might just be talking to myself here :) but i went ahead and took back the 34R battery back to autozone, and ordered a yellow top D35. Ive been looking and the D35 yellow is reversed terminals like the 34R AND they are closer to the edge which is what the tahoe needs. The 75 series doesnt have the reversed terminals and also has the top and side connections which i dont need.

The 75 you use the terminals on the side.
