I'm getting ready to clean my throttle body on my 03 5.3 tahoe and wanted to know if I should completely remove the TB or just clean it in place. I've searched but haven't found a thread that says either way.
Any pros/cons to either?
Tips/tricks?

Thanks!

Pull the intake rubber back, and you'll see some black stuff in there, make sure you get that nice and clean , also be sure to clean the bushings where the butterfly valve sits. And only use throttle body cleaner , or carb clean, should be able to get both at napa or Canadian tire, ( if you live there lol )

If you have time to remove, you can get it cleaned alittle better IMO. Also will be able to get all the grime removed to the ground rather then into the intake.

But I routinely clean my TB while on vehicle, and haven't had an issue. First startup takes some cranking after cleaning, but no worries on it.
Move butterfly back and forth while spraying cleaner to remove all buildup from nooks n crannies.

Would recommend doing the MAF also-with MAF cleaner tho!!

Well, I was able to remove it but mine only had three nuts which weren't a problem but getting the damn hoses from the underside were a bear! Anyway, it was fairly dirty in my opinion but it will be a few days before I get everything back up and running so no idle results yet.

Thanks for the info guys!

I have it up on stands now waiting for new hubs to arrive so I figured I would go ahead and clean the MAF and TB and paint the calipers while I'm at it. Well, that and I have a bachelor party to go to this weekend so that'll eat up a couple days

I don't know if it was the TB or the MAF or a combination of the two but man does it run a lot smoother! It would stumble enough at a stop light that I would sometimes have a foot on each pedal but now I could put a marble on top of the motor and it wouldn't move! This needs to be mandatory for all new tahoyukonforum members! Can't believe I didn't do this sooner.

Anyone ever had a TB apart?

I picked up a spare TB on eBay and was contemplating tearing it down and doing a through cleaning. Anyone ever had one of these things apart before?
