Cant talk about crappy welds and not post pics!:pics-stfu:

Go down on your wire size. Try a .023

You'll probably need turn the heat down a little bit. The shielding gas psi could stand to come down, IMO. As long as you're not going any holes in the weld, its good. So lower the gas until you start getting porosity, then turn it up until you don't. I don't think it hurts anything having it up higher, just a waste of product. These steps should help you with the weld "roll under" (looks like a mushroom).

I'm sure you know but if not, you'll need to change the roller on the wire feeder in the machine, as well as the tip.

sooo tonight i just started burning, started pretty low on some material settings for a miller welder (this junk doesnt say much).

any lower on the wire feed and it wouldnt hold the arc and splattered all over. so i just started bumping amps up, burn a few bumps, check, higher, higher higher. it starts to lay over with more amps, but mostly just because its about to blow through and all the material falls within the pipe

at the lowest amperage and wire speed (miller settings) its easy to control the puddle but its way too much filler so im hoping i can find a happy puddle setting without all the filler with the smaller wire.

Slightly better than the couple times I’ve tried to weld. All I have is a flux core HF 120 volt pos so maybe I have hope lol.

Shit sucks lol, going to try the smaller wire. If I still ain't worth a shit I may commit to buying a tig welder.

If I were afraid to fail I would never accomplish anything :anitoof:
Yeah me neither. I’ve actually never failed at anything I’ve set my mind to do, only failed if I didn’t put forth the effort needed. As far as welding, I’ve never decided to commit to learning or buying a decent welder. It’s always been one of those “one day I’ll do it” things. But I guarantee if I buy a nice welder I’ll figure out how to use it. I just haven’t had much need. The last thing I welded was my tubs to the new front fenders I bought for the Silverado and it was all pretty much sight unseen after they were installed. Thin sheet metal like that I just tacked it and kept filling in between. Came out ok.

Hold the torch at a 45 degree angle instead of going straight in on it. A few of those welds like good but most of them aren't penetrating enough. When you get the smaller wire, I think you'll be good with some adjustments in your technique. Hold torch at angle, zap, move, zap, move. Maintaining a nice "dime on dime" pattern. If you have any thicker stock, practice on that with the thicker wire until you can lay a bead. Once you conquer that, you'll know what to look for on the thinner material. Rest your nozzle on the material and steady your hand. That helps with control.

You can get wild on the thicker stuff as long as it its thick enough to not burn through and you can lay a continuous weld. Some work the weld in a circle to get the roll of coins look, I prefer the half circle method. Use whatever method you're comfortable with. The main thing is getting the weld to be strong than the material. Get in a comfortable position. Waste some wire. You'll get there.

Its hard to explain this in text. I hope I'm helping and hindering. Hopefully some others will chime in who can add more technical info/critique/tweak what I've said

Good stuff right here :)

eh i think ill just try the small wire.... i dont got months to learn this
Won't take months. You'll be surprised how quickly you pick it up in a very short amount of time. Tyler has got some good pointers. Just some small tweaks can make a HUGE difference.
