^ This. There's a recall for it so they shouldn't charge you anything. If it's cracked they replace it and put a neoprene "insulator" on it. If not they just put the insulator on.
Sorry for not getting back to this thread before now.
I'll check the dipstick. That makes sense. I don't know if I know what pinging/detonation sounds like, so I can't be sure it's that. In the meantime, it could certainly be the dipstick, if it's prone to rattle. I could imagine that being the sound I'm hearing.
Know where I could locate the recall?
