How do/can I remove the rear bumper.
'98 Tahoe.
I'm looking to paint my frame. I figured I'd start with the part most hit by the rust. I was looking to remove the bumper and start at the back. So, unless I'm too tired to see it, is it welded on and there no getting it off.
I've been awake since yesterday at work. Maybe(hopefully) I'm just not seeing it. But it looks to be welded on.

Also, what kind of paint would you suggest? I'm thinking on the hard to reach areas and places that don't get much abuse I'd do just a rubberized spray on. And the parts that will get beat up off-roading(the lower frame, cross members, fender wells) I'd do a roll on bed liner.

Grab a torch, or a sawzall, and start cutting. Ideally, you want to cut just past the body mount, and angle the cut down towards the front of the truck by at least 30*. I did this with mine, and was able to fit a rollpan to cover everything.

Hmmm... I'll have to look closer. I was seeing bolts and welds holding it on. I'd like to be able to put it back on. I wouldn't like the roll pan look on my truck and it would look stupid with the hitch sticking out.
I'm going to sleep now.

some of the roll pans have hide-a-hitches that hide behind the license plate, you just flip down the license plate and stick the hitch in. i think the 2 doors have the gas tank hanging down lower than the 4 doors, so you might see the tank some with a roll pan if you have a 2 door, unless you get a different fuel cell. couldn't tell for sure if yours was a 2 or 4 door from your avatar, so i'm being kinda vague with the info here. good luck with whatever you decide man

Bumper is bolted on, no welds. Should see the bolts once you wake up and look.

If you have a body lift and they raised the bumper more than likely its also welded.
