So I noticed a puddle and started looking, my rear diff has a small hole. It looks like something from inside has hit it. I don't have any noise from the diff. What could have broke and caused the cover to crack? Thanks in advance. Just want to get an idea before I open the cover.

Theres no real good way to know without pulling the cover. If it seriously cracked the housing from in the inside out, than you should hear or feel something. Things like that dont just happen :poker:

I had an old chevelle years ago and i had a tooth on the ring gear break off and somehow go through the cover.

If your truck has a locker it could be part of that or possibly part of the pinion or ring gear.

Like skbishop90 said, You really won`t know til you take a look in there.

It does have the factory limited slip. Where on the axle is the tag for gear ratio and what size the gear is, ie 8.25or 9..... It is the 10 bolt.

I`m pretty sure it`s an 8.6 inch rear.

The easiest way to find out what gear ratio you have is to look in the glove box for the rpo code.

You can also use this http://www.compnine.com/vid.php?vin=

To help you figure it out.

You could also count the number of teeth on the pinion gear and divide them by the number of teeth on the ring gear, the resulting number will be your ratio.

It says 3.73 So I am pretty sure i got the right diff cover. Just need to open it up to see what broke. I am scerred of what it could be.
