Rear lift gate glass hinge seperation?!

For the third time!! Yes!! The glass from the 2005 and 2006 SUVs will fit directly onto an older SUV! Lol even though on the older glass the top hinges are integrated in to the trim they are still shaped exactly identical to the newer ones and the newer ones will match up the tailgate hinges on the older trucks. Lol

It seems like the center brake lamp is integrated with the hatch on the esky, whereas the Tahoe center lamp is in the roof frame. If so, does one just remove the center lamp for the Tahoe and plug the esky center lamp into the existing harness?

The first esky hatch I bought was a 2004 esky hatch. After a couple years on my truck the lift support hinges delaminates from the trim. The drivers side had a pretty huge gap. I was afraid if I kept opening it that the glass would shatter eventually as I’ve heard of it happening a couple times. Anyways I scored a really clean hatch off a 2002 escalade the first day it was made available at the junkyard in the high desert at the base of the mountain I live on and it had the tail light base still attached when I got there, though the light had already been grabbed. The third tail light base on the Escalade is glued with adhesive to the exterior portion of the glass, not part of the trim surround, then there are three screws that go through the glass and the base mount and screw into the underside of the tail light. Here you can see the three screw holes:


I took the 2002 hatch that I scored with intact lift support mounts, and used heavy grade JB weld all around the area where the lift support mount meets the trim, before mounting on the truck. It’s been on the truck since June and the lift support mounts have held up with the JB weld. No separation as of yet.

How is the repair holding up now that is been a year?

Sorry for the late reply. Well the passenger side is still holding strong. The driver side gave a little (I may not have put enough on.) I was going to attempt a repair this weekend but I'm chasing a front end vibration. Maybe Ujoints (hopfully). So I may have to tackle the repair another weekend.

I have the same problem right now. I'd buy a junkyard part, but fear it will just result in same thing.

Curious has the 3M Auto Glass glue held strong?

Matthew, from what I hear, the 2005/6 hatch doesn't crack out.

You could buy some 3M 5200 marine adhesive sealant. That repair lasted about 2 years for me. I may not have added enough of the sealant overtop of the hinge. Also, they say if you run a heat gun directly over the freshly applied sealant, it will flow better into voids and make a better seal.

I'm just going to wait for a 2005/6 hatch to become available.
