I had a bad experience with a Nissan Maxima using lower octane gas than recommended. Sensors like Knock went bad since they worked harder and they werent cheap nor in the best location for changing. I would definitely use the recommended gas even if it didnt give you engine failure. Between the worst gas mileage (6.2L has bad enough gas mileage to begin with) and the chance of sensors going bad, the few $ you save per tank ends up being spent elsewhere.

In my dad's 15i, which I think has over 40,000 by now, we run anything. It travels from MA to SoFlo a few times a year and is a dd. Never had a problem running low octane, but it does seem to perform a little better on high octane. Flexfuel or whatever they're calling it now isn't perfect but it's pretty good.

I'm tuned for 93 and don't run anything else.It cost maybe $5~$6 per tank full but it's well worth the difference in mileage and performance.
