So, I see a lifted and a street suspension forum, but nothing for basic stock suspension. I figure the lifted folks would be able to answer just as easy as anyone. I need shocks on my truck. 2007 Yukon. Curious what the better aftermarket shocks are for our vehicles that keep a nice smooth ride. I have always been a fan of Bilsteins but don't know their reputation here so I'll apologize now to those that are not fans....

Regardless, just looking for others' experience with replacing the stock units with something else/better. Not looking for any lift or leveling really unless they make something like the bilstein adjustable with different heights for the front. But the ride needs to stay "cozy"...

thanks all.

I would give the 4600 (HD) bilsteins over the stock Z71, as my Z71 with40000 miles is a little harsh. I hope to correct with a little more sidewall on my new tires.

Awesome folks, thanks for the replies. I assumed Bilstein HD's were the way to go, but since everything else is different on this compared to my Titan, it was worth asking. Thanks again.

On another forum, a member switched from Z71 to the HDs and the HDs were more stiff.

Based on threads it seems like the 5100s are pretty plush.

Edit: The 5100s and HDs (4600s) are basically the same regarding dampening qualities (Bilstein website). Also just read that initially the HDs were stiffer than the 5100s, but now the HDs have been revised and share the same components. I guess this is why some, in the past, indicated the HDs were stiffer than the 5100s.

I have played around with both.

The Z71 are definitely as stiff if not stiffer the 4600s on initial compression.

Also the Bilsteins are softer in the middle of the stroke.

Actually Bilsteins have a digressive type damping system and damping is not dependant on distance the internal piston travels. At low piston speed the shock is stiff which helps with body roll, dive, and squat. At high piston speed the damping force is pretty much constant which is great for offroading or potholes/large bumps.

I would recommend the Bilstein's, when I've put them on my vehicles in the passed I wasn't disapointed.

Thanks,

John
