Replacing engine

I just recently acquired a 2007 suburban. Got it very cheap and it's in very good condition interior/body .

Seems like the previous owner did not do regular maintenance. Very dark oil and it blew a bearing through the oil pan.

Now i am wondering if i go and replace the engine with an engine close to the 2007 year. ?

What's the difference if i go for a older engine such as a 2003 with 124,000 miles,

Or maybe a newer model 2012?

Which would be the best route?

They changed the LS enines from a 24x to 58x Reluctor at some point. Check the model compatibity. Also Check with Jasper engines.

@Dan2002 In my research I found it is too much work to try to get an older motor to work. It seems like they are very similar but they are not, the knock sensor is just one example.

I looked at this one but ended up just rebuilding it myself.

If I were you I'd be looking for a L92 to put in there (6.2L with no AFM).

But if you're looking for a 5.3, any Gen IV 5.3 should do (e.g., 2007-2013).
