I found an Esky being parted and went to look at the plastic shell (cage?) that the dash mounts to and was hoping the interior was black so I could grab the rest of the stuff I needed. Glad it was a short drive because the Esky is different due to the console and it was cashmere. Wasted his and my time on a Christmas afternoon. Lesson learned. I need a Tahoe, Yukon or Silverado LTZ to rob parts from.

I'll be headed to LKQ in a little bit. I intend to pull some parts then stash 'em in a trunk to retrieve this weekend when they're 40% off. Lemme know if you want me to look for anything.

LKQ up here runs a closed yard. Lucky you. I found the subframe locally. Looking for the knee bolster and lower center trim but shipping on that big trim part would be a *****. I’ll just find it here, but thanks.

I just made a good deal on an entire dash from a local wrecking yard. $150 and it includes the main frame, sub frame, main dash pad, dash extension, knee bolster, vent assemblies, wiring harness, lower center trim, etc. I should have all I need and then I’ll sell the rest. It’s two tone, wrong color but the 2 parts I need that show I’ll just paint black .

The knee bolster, center lower trim will have to be painted but they fit. The old airbag fits. The old lower glove box fits. The upper glove box isn't used.

I spent an hour and a half and got the dash and almost got the old inner structure removed and realized the steering wheel needs to come off. I'm about out of daylight so it will have to wait until tomorrow.

The old dash compared to the new. I should be able to recoup most of the money I've spent on this by selling the old parts, especially considering the old dash skin is only a few months old and I have the receipts. Plus I can sell the tan Tahoe dash skin. It isn't cracked!

Ordered a couple switch panels that match my truck's options. I didn't need the 4WD selector so I ordered the switch panel with just the headlight and foglight switches, and the lower center panel that just has the Traction control, not the adjustable pedals and other switch that's on most of them. Now I'll have 2 small cubbies that I might be able to convert into something useful.

I decided to leave the platinum trim areas as-is and just wrap the wood grain parts. The areas around the vents with small holes where the thumb wheels are is not a good area to wrap due to the fact that when I slice a hole in the center, there’s virtually no material left to make flaps out of and pull around the backside so I’m afraid it will end up peeling around those small holes. I think I’ll be ok with it this way.
