I stopped by the body shop today. They got the bed ready for a spray-in liner plus undercoated all the underside of it without getting anything on the frame since it's so clean; he said he didn't want to mess up that nice custom frame work. They're doing quite a bit of extra stuff in order to make things blend. As well as repainting a good part of the hood and clearing it, they're blending the fenders and the grill as well as painting a new stock HD bumper. I did not know that the HD's only came with chrome bumpers. The 1500 bumper wouldn't work with my HD grill and hood so I'm stuck with him having to paint a chromie. He sanded it with 80 grit and did a whole lot of work to make it paintable but said if it gets hit with rocks on the freeway it will chip. I have thought about a wrap and I'm pretty sure there's one in the future. But for now I'll be happy with how it comes out. He's only charging me $800-$900 for everything so it's not bad. It's good to have a friend with a body shop.

Who told you the HDs only had chrome bumpers? Bought an 2013 LTZ Z71 with a factory painted front bumper. Paint doesn't stick worth a shit though. Also pretty positive the HD grille will work with a 1/2 ton bumper as @NathanJax has/had this setup.

I would question everything whomever told you this info says.

What HD bumper is he selling you? I assumed the same style you have currently which my statement would still be correct. Nathan has the grille and a 1/2 ton bumper. I would say dude either is not knowledgeable past what his book says or trying to sell you what he has laying around. If he is a good painter I would start doing your own research and telling him what to do or putting things together for myself.

The HD bumper that was on it and the PO modified was also originally chrome so IDK why they also didn't buy a painted one if it was available. My buddy ordered the one he painted. I'll ask him when I pick it up. I think my front is an 08 grill and 12 hood now that I think about it. IDK I'll get some answers.
Edit: I think I found the answer. From what I found out from looking at parts lists at gmpartsgiant and looking at Google images, the 2008 HD's only came with chrome front bumpers. The 12's came with either paintable or chrome. And the 08 and 12 HD grills are different so if you have an 08 grill you need an 08 bumper and vice versa. That would explain why the PO used a chrome bumper too, he must have bought it with the 08 HD grill. I will verify though.

Your bumper currently is the 2011-13 style so unless you want the older 3-piece HD bumper you could have gotten paintable. You may be right on the grille as I am not sure the differences. I was going by the front end you have now and thought you just didn't want the molded bumper.

Ultimately if you're happy that is what matters. I am just trying to get you the correct info vs what you're being told.

In pics the grilles look the same but maybe @NathanJax can shed some light on it.

you have the 08-11 hood and grille and the 12-14 bumper.

No idea on what's paintable or not. I like my 1500 bumper because I personally think the HD bumper is HUGE and very flat on the front of the trucks...

The bumper is in the first pic I posted with the hood in the paint booth. It doesn't look huge to me but I guess I'll see when it's all done. The PO told me the hood was 08/11 and bumper and grill is 12. Anyway it will look better than what it had. Pics to come Monday or Tuesday.
