I had a buddy with a 76 Celica that had the 20R motor. He would 10K to 20K miles before changing his oil. One time the motor locked up when it ran low on oil. He had it towed to his house and we shot some oil down the spark plug holes and were able to break the motor free with a breaker bar and that damn thing ran for another 50K miles. Those Toyota 4 banger motors were bullet proof.

@Tonyrodz
bunch of YouTube videos of engine coming right out of the big trucks for the pulls. tried to find the specific one i seen but couldn't find it but i did find this disaster. skip ahead to 3:15

When I ets'd from the Army back in '91 I had an '81 K10 I had planned on driving home. Stopped for gas in Indiana. Got in and put it in DRIVE ( or so I thought; the fishing string broke in the gear indicator ). I got about 3 miles down the highway when a pushrod decided to exit via the oilpan. Must have been about a 1 1/2" hole where it went through. Had to sit for about 6 hours while my stepdad drove down with an F250 5th wheel to tow me back. Got home, threw a 327 in it, put on new liftkit and sold it. The dude who bought it called about a week later and said the rearend fell off while he was driving it. In my haste to get it back together and sold, I forgot to fully tighten the u-bolts!

He should have felt something wrong long before the rear axle came out.

They sure were. I've owned two 22Rs and they both outlasted the bodies of the Celicas they were in. Drove those cars all over the country and they never once let me down. One of them was a barn find in PA. Hadn't run in years. Put some fresh gas in the tank and a battery in, and it fired right up.
