Seems most of you are talking about adding it in the tank. I should have been more clear in my post, as to the fact I do not have a problem with injector additives to clean injectors, and lube upper cylinders. Sorry for my vagueness on that part. The quality of fuel is sad anymore, and only going to get worse.
There is a lot of talk about people getting poorer gas mileage these days thinking there is problems with their vehicle. When it is more than likely the quality of fuel burned in it.
If a pump says 10% ethanol content that's 2.6 gals in a 26 gallon fill up being straight ethanol. Burning straight ethanol always produces poorer fuel mileage. With that being said obviously you are going to get less miles per gallon with an ethanol based fuel.
My original post was more oriented towards intake cleaning, and engine flushing. I just think that you are playing Russian roulette doing these procedures. For the cost of the additive compared to what is maybe gained, or could be lost (an engine).
Kudos to those of you who have had no problems using it in the intake, and for engine flushing. Through research on the web I have found as many dont's as do's in engine flushing. As for the intake cleaning I will stick to a disassemble cleaning procedure its a sure thing visually knowing the deed is done.
My tahoe runs like a top at 125k with out doing any of this so why bother with the risk. Mileage gain would be a nice asset though.
For those that are gaining mileage of 2MPG with a can of seafoam which I have seen reported. Thats basically getting you an extra 3.47 gal a tank compared to the old mileage. So these days thats about 11.99 for a 6.99 can of seafoam investment. If you have a 26 gallon tank, and you were getting 15mpg, and now get 17mpg thats an additional 52 more miles per tank divided by the previous 15mpg is 3.47 gals. Todays gas price is 3.46 in my neck o the woods so 11.99 for a 6.99 investment. Another way to look at it if you subtract the cost of the seafoam from the dollars saved per tank you are saving 5 bucks every fill up. Thats not bad if its consitent performance.
As for the 2 cycle oil I tend to think its probably about 38 bucks a gal. for the pennzoil synthetic, or 30cents an ounce. Way cheaper to get 2 more miles per gallon like about 1.50 to treat a tank at the 1 oz per 5 gal ratio. Or 5 ozs for a 26 gal tank if the price per gallon of oil is correct. So your return sky rockets to 10.49 buckos per tank. Thats IF you get 2mpg increase. I have read where some stated 2% increase which is way less.
I think I will give the 2cycle a try.
