does the catalytic converter have to be cold when i change out the O2 sensor??

I've nicked my hand on hot exhaust parts, I sure as hell would not want to touch and hold it when it's ~500 degrees. So yeah, do it when it's cold.

So, why didn't you replace the catalytic converters and oxygen sensore when you replaced the motor?

If your motor went bad then its possible your cats and sensors were damaged in the process. I continued to get a CEL after replacing my motor, that is until the cats and oxygen sensors were replaced.

And the catalytic converters and oxygen sensors are usually only good for 100k miles.

Kinda like changing your oil but not changing the oil filter.
