I recently bought a '07 Tahoe LTZ with navigation. When I get in the truck (and it's quiet), I hear a weird noise from the stereo/nav unit that sounds like a little servo motor. It goes for a while and finally shuts off.

Is this normal? The truck was my brother-in-law's previously and he said it's done it since new & has never killed the battery. Anyone else notice this with their truck?

Mine does the same thing... I always assumed it was just normal. I wonder how many others there are?

It's the NAV system reading the DVD. Every time you start up it needs to update its position and pull as much local information from the DVD as possible.

Normal (but irritating, I admit)

Okay, you had me wondering there for a minute so I went out and simulated every condition I could.
No video DVD, No NAV DVD,,,,,, No sound
Video DVD, No NAV DVD,,,,,,,,,, No sound
No video DVD, NAV DVD,,,,,,,,,,, servo sound

I don't know where your sound is coming from but mine is coming from the NAV DVD.

Do you hear it as soon as you turn on the ignition when you truck is cold?

If not, and you hear it later, I suspect it's a cooling fan.

I don't have NAV either, and I only hear it after the truck (and radio) have been running for a while. Usually when I stop somewhere and shut off the truck, but leave the radio on.

Has to be a different sound than I'm hearing.
I hear it as soon as I shut the door. I don't even have to put the key in the ignition.

i Have the same things. It usually makes the sound as soon as I unlock the doors. Sounds like it is reading a disk. Definitely not a fan. I'd be curious to find out what it is as well....

yea... mine does it as soon as door is opened with no key in ignition yet. I took the DVD and CD that were in the drives out and the noise went away. Did get to try each one at a time to see which was was the culprit. I will do this and let yall know.

tspear Do you have NAV or just a dash with DVD and CD like mine?
