gd morning guys, I'm new to this forum and to these trucks. I've been thinking about buying this 97 yukon on craigslist for $2000 http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lgb/cto/3056919327.html
the truck looks really nice but the seller says that it will crank but won't start and the last know problem was a problem with the "Iac and egr valve".... should I take a chance on it and could u guys give me a few points to look out for with these particular trucks cause literally don't know anything about them. THANKS in advance for the help

Offer him 1500 bucks, id take it for that.

i wouldnt quote him on the egr and iac tho.. check the oil and antifreeze when you look at the truck. you dont want the oil and coolant to mix!

sometimes people sell shit for the dumbest reason.. cranks but wont start (no gas!) or the trans is slipping ( the damn fluid was low)

Definitey not for 2K. My whole basis for not paying 2k would be that 1) a running tahoe commonly sells for around this price and 2) If the engine doesn't run, you have no clue IF the engine is even repairable (cheaply), and have no way of checking the transmission, transfer case, and front/rear drivetrains for proper function.

A bad EGR wouldn't cause the truck to not start, unless it was a bad vacuum leak from the gasket, in which case about $3 and ten minutes of time fixes the issue. As for the IAC, That won't cause the truck to not start either, you should be able to give it about 1/4 throttle then and have it roar to life. the computer doesn't cut off the injectors until almost wide open throttle I believe. There has to be something else to it. The motor turns over, so it's probably not an oil or major mechanical issue. If the IAC and EGR are actually acting up, then the check engine light should be on, ask him if you can have a mechanic inspect it, that's what I would say. Definitely have the codes scanned and, if you can, have a compression test done. (thats something you can always do yourself too). Theres always the chance that it overheated from a coolant leak, the heads cracked, and now its very hard to start/ won't run at a all. Check the oil and coolant to see what condition they're in, check for major rust spots etc. You know, all the basic stuff.

I must say though, it looks really well taken care of on the outside and its looks really nice! Im liking the wheels, but not those chrome tails... Good luck! And welcome to the forums! :waytogo:

if your brought that truck to ohio and it ran, it would sell for around 5 to 7.. so differnt places in the US will bring different money.

Check the coolant, oil, trans fluid. Look underneath for leaks. Scan for codes. Check for spark. Check for fuel pressure.

At most I'd pay $1500 is its in good shape. Oh, If you don't have the tools to check the above mentioned items, you might no want to buy a broken vehicle.

It depends on where you live on what the price will be. Mine was 7000$ out the door on a used car lot. they were asking 10,000$ for it. Its a 97 yukon 2 door gt it had 145,000 miles on it. and it had a very small intake leak. Me and my dad looked for weeks for one. The one i bought is in great condition. a few minor door dings, and the driver seat is only thing wrong with it now. Looked at several here in Texas. The cheapest one we found was 4000$ and it was a piece of crap. I had a spending limit of 7000$, if that truck was here in Texas it would be selling for around 3-5k. If that was in Texas i would have bought it when i got mine and just put a 383 in it with my 7000$ spending limit. I dont think that the truck your looking at is a bad deal. It has a nice set of wheels and tires, aftermarket lights, brush guard, the paint looks really nice, and there doesnt seem to be any door dings on the passenger side from the picture. I know people say to offer 1500$ but thats because of the part of the country they live in where someone will actually take that much. Like i said that same truck in Texas would be sellign for 3-5k even with a bad motor. It would be 2k if the exterior was in poor condition, which that truck doesnt look in bad shape at all. Id go look at it first. Im always suspicious of craigslist auctions. That could be the next door neighbors truck and hes actually selling a truck on blocks... Ive seen that happen before.
