When the wheel bearings started going out I could hear a noise in the front when I turned the wheel to the left while driving. It was kind of a grinding noise. I actually thought it was maybe a tire noise. That lasted for a few thousand miles. Then it all of a sudden got scary loud. The ABS light came on intermittently also. The mechanic said that was because the bearings were shot. They fell apart when he was taking them out. Had to replace the hubs also.
If you have a mechanic you trust take it to him and have him look it over. They should be able to spot any problems with it.

You can tell bearings are going mostly from listening. You'll be hearing a grinding or squeaking from the bearing. You can then jack it up and if there is play in the wheel as it's still bolted to the lugs you most likely have a bad bearing. Bearings are usually about 200 a piece for good ones but I have seen them cheaper on occasion.

I wouldn't worry about 150,000. My 01 tahoe has 292,000 on it with no real problems other than ABS from some mountain driving and some leaky hoses that needed replacing.

The front bumper on this Tahoe that I want to but is metal on the lower section. It is painted black, but obviously the salty roads and rocks from the road has started to take a toll on it. There are some small rust spots starting to appear through the paint. Does anybody know if there is a inexpensive way to cosmetically fix this without replacing it? Otherwise I think that I am sold on it. The back window wiper is also bent down because it was pulled on by a child. Any tips on fixing this?

paid $11k for an 03 LS with 105K and someone was offering an 05 LS with 86K for $10K yesterday on this forum. So, price (yes Z71) seems high for 150K. Also, my 03 doesn't have struts, do 05 Z71s?
