Hey guys, I am new here but have been reading posts here for the past few days. I need a larger vehicle and a friend of mine wants to sell his 1997 Yukon. I am going to test drive it this weekend and have it checked over. I was wondering if you all could give me some specifics on common problems to look out for. Below I will list all that I know about the truck right now, I will know more when I pick it up tonight.

127,000 miles vehicle
70,000 miles on the motor
going to need 4 tires before winter
bent side step and dent in rear pass door from accident (no frame damage)
paint looks splotchy in areas around back side window
tailgate has a little bit of painted over rust
leathr int. wear tear in drivers seat
new window motor or switch in drivers door
4x4

He wants $2500 for the truck. And thats all I know up to this point. The owner dosen't know much about the vehicle except he bought it 3 years ago as a second car to drive occasionally. Says it drove great for him and didn't have any problems while towing a boat.

If you all could give me some pointers I would very much appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

if it has a new Vortec (documented) motor, sounds like a decent buy if that's what your looking for. 127K and already has rust and bad paint, must be northern truck?

Plan on at least $500 for tires.

But I see 01-03's for about twice that, witht eh LS based motor...so up to you.

I'm from Kentucky but I don't know where the truck was before.

Not sure about the engine, should find out about that tonight.

$2500 for anything that moves (in fair condition) isn't bad.. especially when it fits a few people and some cargo. Good project car

We know about projects here.... If you were in WA, I'd jump on it. I think I'm going to start another thread over in the tech section- "how to buy a car." Make sure the VIN on the title, and the VIN on the car match, it has current tabs, etc.

That doesn't sound too bad to me. I'd check out the motor as mentioned first though.

So I got the truck home and had it checked out with my neighbor the mechanic. Here is what we now know.
Same as above plus vortec engine
solid body
small clunk when shifting into 2nd
Sony hu and 4 pioneer speakers
everything else runs good and looks good

I will need the 4 tires, patch up drivers seat and grease the door hinges and it will be ready to go. And I still need to run the carfax.

So what do you think now? Worth the $2500? Thanks for the advice.
