Is anyone else shutting down the engine while still in D and letting the car automatically go to P on the gearshift? I know this all sounds lazy but I can’t think this is causing any damage to the transmission. Plus, I hate the button gearbox set/up, glad to see GM move back to the stalk gearshift lever on the 2025 models.

It’s activating the parking pawl just the same whether you push the button or turn off the engine. It won’t damage anything doing it the way you are.

I hated the button setup before I got it, but I’ve grown to like it. There’s a nice place to rest your hand when doing multi-point turns. The new shift stalk has a logic that I know would confuse my wife.

I had the same question on my 24’ and the manual implied it was good both ways. I’m curious if the 25’s with the column shifter is the same way, come to a stop and simply push the off button without officially putting into park from the column?
