Yes, you can pretty much guarantee that the plug wires will fall apart on you if it's been a decade or so. You'll pull the insulator off then find the conductor is still attached to the plug, and the electrical wire (at least on the OEM wires) is way skinnier than you would've thought. Just plan on changing plugs AND wires.

go by harbor freight and pick up a set of long curved needle nose pliers they sell them in a set of 3 (cheap), you stick that long needle nose inside the lip edge of the metal heat shield grab the plug wire firmly and yank it out, then you can grab that heat shield and put it to the side it will go back on with your new plug wires.
