Hello ... :)

So just thinking out loud and asking a question I asked on another thread but couldn't quite get a response to.

What, if any, would be the issue if one wanted for esthetic reasons to stagger tires from back to front whilst keeping their wheels the same from back to front?

Felixgun and myself are contemplating going the Nitto 420s route on our oem 22s and have been trying to figure out what the max size would be without trimming.

We got some feedback that running 305/40/22s rub slightly in the front at full lock in reverse on stock height.

So the question is, could one stagger 305/45/22 in the rear and 295/with whatever number keeps the same circumference in the front so as to avoid rub?

Would the handling of the truck change significantly?
Would it be unsafe?
Would it hurt the truck when running in 4x4 mode?

Apologies if this is a stupid question, after all it doesn't seem to be discussed or done a great deal ... just trying to figure out if and what would be the issues with such a setup.

Thanks.

IMO, the biggest issue would be the inability to rotate your tires and therefore costing more money in the long run due to replacing tires more frequently.

I have no idea but it doesn't seem like it would be a problem as long as the radii are the same. Drag cars do it.

SW CT,
Should not be an issue as long as the tires measure out to the same overall circumference...when run in 2wd mode there will not be a problem, but auto or 4wd would freak out if the overall ratio is not within a couple percent. I have heard of some people running a different gear ratio in the front to compensate for the differences.

And BTW I like how you are thinking.:Handshake:

So I'm trying to figure this out ...

That seems like too big a difference to me.

Okay ... this is the least difference from front to back I could find:

2 questions:

1. Is that acceptable for occasional 4wd?
2. Will 295/40/22s rub in the front on stock height?

shouldnt have any issues in regards to steering and issues along those lines. as far as rubbing its a whole nother' ball game. I wouldn't have any idea.

Just for the sake of asking, what's wrong with the 285/45/22? It's what the manufacturer calls for and they look pretty darn good as is?

305/40/22 only rubs so slightly and with oem wheels I doubt they would rub at all having that they have the stock offset. My havocs xl wheels have a 2"lip. I think thats what make it rub slightly. If only u can test some 305/40's prior to u buying them IMO 305's look better.

Nothing 'wrong' with the 285/45/22s I have on now per se ... just thinking about what is or isn't possible/feasible. The one thing I miss from when I had the 24s on with 295/35/24 tires is the meaner wider tire in the back ... the oem spec tires don't quite get there in that regard. :)

yeah, i see what you mean. I guess wide tires look better on wide wheels, IMO. We're running wider wheels and tires in the rear with the new wheels, and narrower wheels and tires up front. A lil different than your setup.
