I have a 2007 Yukon XL 1500 SLT 2WD.

After some intermittent ongoing electrical issues, I replaced the positive battery cable that runs from the battery to both the starter and the mega fuse on the firewall. After it was installed, as I reconnected the negative cable to the battery, the starter runs immediately. This was not a problem before.

Possibly related: The post/bolt on the starter solenoid which accepts the cable from the battery is somewhat loose, and I'm concerned I might have over-tightened the nut when installing the positive cable. I noticed the bolt was twisting in the solenoid, and it actually moves side to side or up/down slightly. This only happens when the nut and cable are removed.

Any ideas would be appreciated, thank you.

Solenoid failure. Replace the whole assembly.

You said yourself that the solenoid bolt was loose. Coming apart inside and likely causing problems. The starter running constantly means it could also have a damaged starter drive from engaging teeth. If old enough I recommend replacing whole assembly and be done with it. Use AC Delco parts.

AC Delco new #3371119

AC Delco Reman gear reduction #3362002A

AC Delco Reman 3231644

All come with solenoids

AC Delco starter relay #D1786C

New starter

Thanks for the input. Problem solved. I replaced the starter, but had to go with Autozone's Duralast because I couldn't wait for an AC Delco starter to ship. It came with a lifetime warranty so we'll see how long it lasts.

Sidenote: The Duralast turns over more quickly/intensely, and whines for a couple seconds as it winds down. Distinct difference in the sound compared to stock.

Thanks.

2007 Tahoe LTZ 180,000 miles How do I know when the starter solenoid needs replaced. When the truck sits a while, like overnight,, the first start will stick on after the engine has already started. Its like the starter get stuck on. Replaced the starter a month or two ago and no change.
