Steering Lock Broken: Attempted Theft

Some dip broke into my truck through the drivers side, I guess attempting to do something to the ignition... and have found that my steering wheel doesn't lock into place anymore. Is there an easy fix to this or does the whole locking mechanism need to be changed out?

A car alarm install is on it's way.

That's good to hear then if it's standard. When I recently took my truck in to have the wiring checked for a connection to my new deck, the stereo guy hinted something of it. I hardly paid attention, then came to mind, checked it and there was no lock, so thought something was wrong.

Steering wheel locks were deleted by GM on our trucks, but not sure exactly which year. My 03 does not have it.

No wheel lock on my 03 either. I believe 02 was the last year...
