So I just installed my new avh-4000nex and my rear camera works but when I go to put it into drive I just get a black screen. Now I know that the camera switches off but how do I get it to go back to the radio screen like the stock radio did. And it is not just this radio because I installed a different pioneer into it and it did the same thing. Now I also have bypassed the parking brake for the DVD player does that have anything to do with that or because I have the dual video that I don't need to bypass it because I believe my stock radio DVD worked while driving down the road

So it works fine in reverse but when you go in to drive the screen is blank?

If so, it sounds like you have the camera "on" and it needs to be "off". Hit the home screen and then press the rear view camera button and that should fix it.

When you have that button on, you see the camera the entire time the radio is on. However, the power to the camera only turns on when in reverse.

Could you please dumb it down for me. I got the exact issue with my 8500. Camera polarity in on "battery". Camera works just fine in reverse, however, if I hit "rear view" drive in Drive, screen goes black. I'd like to have reverse camera to work the way it does not and would like to see whats behind me while driving forward by pressing "rear view". Any suggestions?

That's because your camera does not have power and/or ground going to in while your in drive. Your camera only has power and/or ground to it when the vehicle is put in to reverse.

There's 2 ways this could be done. Either the factory is grounding the ground wire while in reverse or it's giving power to the camera while going in to reverse.

Either way, you're looking at rewiring your camera if you're wanting to do this the correct way.

Thanks. I am actually inside my car doing this right now. I realized there are only 2 wires, yellow and black, so no power when i drive.

So the camera is being triggered by +2v. When in P, I get about .5v, after shifting to R, it just to ~2.2v. Now, in order to get the cam to stay on, i need to provide constant 2.2v from my understanding, but where to get that 2.2v from. If it was 12v, there would be no issue.
