Most(U.S.) call them U joints or Universal joints. And the driveshaft is typically called a Propeller shaft in the books.Ah, ok.. Thank you...
I didn't know the English word for them. We call them "Kardan Gelenk" in German, thought you call them cardan shaft...
That is something sometimes very difficult for foreigners, like me, when you speak a language not like native speakers and then you try write about technical issues and looking for words and try to translate that and get totally wrong words.Most(U.S.) call them U joints or Universal joints. I assume by U joints you mean the drive shaft joints? I will check them but I assure you that the noise is coming from that hub somewhere. It a lot more obvious when you're there than it is through video. But hey what can it hurt for new bearings anyways right? I'll change them and if the sound persists, I'll update this thread.Defnitely sounds like a bearing but the resonant frequency does not sound like it is traveling through steel. Its sounds like it is traveling through aluminum. Check your U joints.
The tire is turning well less than a quarter turn everytime it squeaks. That leads me to believe it is not the axle bearing since they typically get pitted in a certain spot or area and that would require a complete revolution of the tire(axle) to make the squeak. Not a fraction of complete wheel rotation.
but as @rockola1971 rightly pointed out, this noise is not once per revolution but about every quarter of a revolution. That doesn't really go with splash shields.Are you sure that the rotor isn't rubbing the splash shield? Were the splash shields in good shape?
Also, it doesn't do it when the car is jacked up. It's only under load. Splash shields are pitted and rusty but not misshapen. It don't sound like a rotor touching something and the noise is every quarter rotation. That don't fit to problems with rotor.Is hub clean so the rotor sits flush? No rust jacking on the hub?
