Code C0561 comes in two forms.

C0561-71 System disabled Information stored invalid serial data received
C0561-72 System disabled Information stored alive counter incorrect.

C codes are considered “chassis” code. This particular code is for GM and relates to the traction control system. The traction control system gets its data from the ABS system. When it detects one wheel spinning faster than the others, or one wheel locking up, it activates the traction control system. Depending on the generation of traction control, the system will activate the ABS brakes to reduces spinning, or, in later models can actually reduce engine power. Late model systems include yaw sensors and steering position sensors to detect the difference between the driver’s intention from the steering wheel and the actually direction the vehicle is moving.

In the case of this GM code, the electronic brake control module (EBCM) is what disables the traction control system or the vehicle stability enhancement system.

The code means the EBCM is receiving faulty data from other modules or is faulty itself.

C0161 code:

C0161 Possible Causes What does this mean? Faulty ABS/TCS Brake Switch (Stop Lamp Switch) ABS/TCS Brake Switch harness is open or shorted ABS/TCS Brake Switch circuit poor electrical connection

How do I fix code C0161? Check the "Possible Causes" listed above. Visually inspect the related wiring harness and connectors. Check for damaged components and look for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded connector's pins.

Possible Symptoms Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Warning Light ON Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

C0161 Description The Stop lamp Switch is a normally open switch, when the brake pedal is depressed the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) will sense battery voltage. This allows the EBCM to determine the state of the brake lamps.

In other words, this is going to require some diagnostic time by someone who knows what they are doing.

Other members here that have dealt with this before will likely chime in. Give them some time to do so.
Good stuff!

Also, want to mention. May not have any bearing on this, but the disable Traction Control button below radio is defective. Does not snap in/out. Feels like it's stuck in?
Could this be the root of the problem?

Hell, anything is possible. Just replacing that switch could fix the problem.

When you press the TC button once it "disables" the TC, when you press it and hold it for more than 5 seconds it also "disables" the Stabilitrac.

I say "disables" because the driver information center (DIC) will show that they are disabled but you still cannot get the tires to spin/break free on dry pavement... unless maybe you have a 6.2l.

I would try to get it unstuck and if you can't, try unplugging the switch and see what happens. It is a momentary switch that sends a ground signal to the BCM to tell it what to do. So if the button is stuck in the depressed position it could very likely be your issue.

Yes I have the 6.2L

Ok changed wires today. Plugs were near new AC Delco Iridiums. Test drove. Still got the Service Stabiilitrak and Traction control Light messages. Went to another Auo Parts store and the hooked up their code reader and I got the following codes under ABS TESTS.

C561-71
C0161-00
U007300
And C090000

Help
sounds like you have a short somewhere, I doubt it is the traction control button, but like Ken said you can just unplug it

you might have to bite the bullet and give it to the dealer for a couple hours

I was driving along about 60 MPH in my 2014 Silverado when everything went to hell. As I remember, the engine slowed down or shut off, the transmission downshifted, and the dash lit up like a Christmas tree. I pulled over and shut it off. When I re-started it, the Stabilitrac warning light was on and it wouldn't go over about 20 MPH. I was able to nurse it home, albeit slowly.

When I got home, I disconnected the battery and left it for a couple of hours to reset it. After I reconnected the battery, no more warning lights or problems. I put about 100,000 more miles on it and it never happened again.

I should also mention the truck runs fine and it does not experience any shifting issues etc.
It is the 6.2L motor

Yes but that code is related to the transmission and so is your traction control/stabiltrac, might be worth at least visually checking the harness, in the bulletin it shows photos of what to look for (wires not fully inserted), chaffed or worn.
