Alright, So I have a random noise coming from outside the truck. I can not make the noise happen on my own again, it has done it with a hard brake, a hard acceleration, hitting bumps, going down hill. But even if i try to do all those things it still only happens whenever it wants and it can last for 1 second to 10 seconds and can be soft or loud. One thing is that it doesnt happen in low speed or city driving, only highway driving (55+). It sounds like it coming from the driver side rear, possibly middle. I have posted a youtube link where it does it after a hard acceleration/hard braking. Listen around the 7 second mark. Sorry I was dropping the phone at the end but you can still hear the noise. Also the noise does not just vanish away, it just ends.

Kind of a hard clunk after you let off the gas-then the noise. Definitely sounds 'rotational' in nature and the pattern seems to go with the speed..... U-joint is a good guess to start.....any excessive play in the driveshaft?

maybe a bearing or some kind too......it is random because maybe it moves into the right spot for that metal on metal scaping' sound-just a thought.

wow... thats horrible. Is ur truck 4wd or awd? if 4wd see if u can find a garage with a dyno... either performance or emissions, and see if u can recreate the issue in a controlled enviornment....

i know sounds horrible...but nothing gets effected when the noise happens, nothing with the motor,trans,drivetrain,brakes...nothing...and now lately it has not been doing it so i cant get it fixed or looked at, whatever it is!

yes the truck is AWD...i had a mechanic ride with me 2 weeks agao while it was happeneing and he says he can feel it on the floor in back the back seats, which leads up to believe something with the transfer case, but you would think the noise would happen all the time.

oh and my wonderful gauge cluster went out...again
