TSB's should be done free from what I gather.....maybe someone else can chime in.

TSB should be free as long as your are still under warranty, but not always, you have to be having the symptoms that the TSB fixes. Recalls are always free.

Any real info on this. TSB number or what the reprogramming is actually doing?

My 07 w 36k miles has a slight screach at startup and a customer of mines 07 w 45k miles has an even louder screach.

Hey guys,

Found this thread in google search...one of the only ones I have found that best describes this problem and has some actual posting about it.

My 2008 Sierra pickup has done this since new. I was aware of the TSB for "refrigerant hammering" as they called it and had the software update performed, however it never fixed it. Some of you guys have said it DID fix it for you.

I have the same problem in that it would NEVER do it for the dealer, but seems to always do it otherwise (when hot outside after sitting).

Have you guys had any luck finding a solution if the TSB DID NOT FIX IT? Should I go back and say maybe they really DIDN'T do the software update? Problem is, I have 54k miles now.

Any thoughts?

Take a video of your truck like AZSCTACO did. Then show that to the dealer and prove to them it is still a problem.

Could someone post a GM CUstomer Service email address or something?

I'm trying to send back a PM to Michelle Phillips and it won't let me because of my post count....which of course it advises me of after I type the whole reply.

Mine has done this noise a few times also. I am still inside my powertrain warranty but I am guessing that its only covered under the 3/36k warranty.

I heard a really weird noise on start-up on an 08 I test-drove today. I bet this was it..... It did it once, I couldn't get it to do it again when I restarted it a few times. Sounds like its not terribly serious if I hear it again on a potential buy.

If it sounds like a machine gun, check your throttle body, it might be coming from there. When you turn on your truck, and it's cold, it'll do that, but once it's hot, it'll stop, since the throttle plate will completely open. If you get any CEL check for P0121, P0122, P0222, P0223, P0123, P0102, or P2135. Could be your wiring harness that connects to the throttle body, GM has an issued that they haven't addressed, and they manufactured a bad harness that connects to the throttle body, the wire breaks from 2 to 4 inches from where it connects to the throttle body, or throttle body might be going bad. Good Luck.

I have a 08 Denali and I get the same type noise on cold engine starts. There seems to be some type of engine knock either lifters or valves. It goes away after the engine warms up. I took it to my local GM service shop and they told me they couldn't hear it. GO GM Service Guys!!!!
